19th anniversary

anniversary

On January 24, 1998, now more than 19 years ago, Dr. Gery Wilkowski left Battelle Memorial Institute to start Engineering Mechanics Corporation of Columbus (Emc2). Although the official incorporation date for Emc2 is March 20, 1998, the Emc2 name was used legally in a sole proprietor mode in the very beginning.

As with many startup companies, Emc2 first operated out of Gery’s house with his wife Rita managing the office administration which she has diligently maintained throughout the company’s growth. Dr. Prabhat Krishnaswamy joined Emc2 in August 1998, and within a year there were 5 full-time engineers, 3 part-time staff members and Gery’s (actually Rita’s) house was overrun with people working in a spare bedroom, study, dining room and the basement. Thus, Emc2 moved to our current location at 3518 Riverside Drive in Upper Arlington (a suburb of Columbus) initially as tenants in late 1999.

As the company continued to grow and add new capabilities, Emc2 eventually bought the office building in 2006 and completed a major lab addition in December 2010. Over the years, the company has evolved and has grown to encompass a staff of 22 people strong today with more than 10,000 ft2 of office and laboratory space in Upper Arlington, OH and a pilot plastics production facility located in Wooster, OH.

Following the same spirit of excellence that our president established at the founding of the company, we at Emc2 are looking forward to continued new challenges and projects with the desire to provide the best and most innovative approaches for solving problems of today and tomorrow for our friends and clients all over the world.
